Dhotsons’ owner, Kuljit Singh, has a specific vision for this local grocery store. “I want this store to create a welcoming atmosphere to all who live within the surrounding community,” said Singh. “I want every customer to encounter friendly faces, affordable pricing, and a hometown feel when they come into our store.” As a 2008 graduate of Auburn Mountainview High School, Singh has a good sense of the pulse in the Lea Hill and greater Auburn community. After working in the Auburn area selling real estate, his dreams became bigger. Wanting to engrain himself and his family into the Auburn community, Singh decided to start his own business. While Singh’s expertise is not in the grocery field, he is working with business associates to gain valuable insight and guidance. Of importance to Singh is alleviating elevated pricing. Singh has a firm goal of creating a local grocery store that is affordable to the community. His business plan is centered around customer service, not the margin of money. “My family members and I will be working in the store. Not to avoid hiring, but instead to create interpersonal relationships with our customers in the community,” shared Singh. Dhotsons may not be open yet, but Singh is already looking to its future. While a pharmacy will not be an addition to the store, home delivery is being considered. The goal is to “provide family-friendly service at such a high level that customers will insist on shopping in person and interacting with their community,” said Singh.
